Milestone Achieved: Platform Holly “Hardening”

Beacon West is proud to share that Platform Holly has reached a major milestone – the “hardening” (or cold stack) phase.

This critical achievement means hydrocarbons have been removed, and the platform is now equipped for remote monitoring via live continuous camera surveillance until the environmental review is completed and regulatory authorities decide the long-term fate of the structure.

Over the past seven years, Beacon West has been honored to support the California State Lands Commission (CSLC) with safe operations, engineering, regulatory compliance, and preparation for the platform’s transition toward decommissioning. Some key highlights of this journey include:

  • Safely conducting hundreds of thousands of hours of work.

  • Designing and installing building modules to support plugging and abandonment of 30 wells.

  • Cleaning and purging all vessels and equipment.

  • Flushing and isolating four pipelines from the platform to shore.

  • De-energizing the platform and disconnecting power cables from shore.

  • Removing unnecessary equipment and components, such as the flare boom.

  • Maintaining regulatory compliance with state, federal, and local permits throughout.

Most recently, Beacon West designed and installed a solar-powered security and communication system with battery backup, added navigational aids for marine safety, and reinforced the cathodic protection system to preserve the platform structure while the State Lands Commission conducts its environmental review for Platform Holly’s ultimate disposition.

We extend our deepest gratitude to our dedicated operations, engineering, regulatory, and construction personnel for executing this work safely and efficiently while protecting the surrounding environment. We thank the California State Lands Commission for entrusting Beacon West with this meaningful work and the many service companies who helped to move Platform Holly closer to its final decommissioning.

This project reflects Beacon West’s commitment to responsible asset management and the meticulous planning required to manage offshore platforms at the end of their life cycle.
